This project supports women in generating an income to help cover the basic needs of their families.

Proactive Women Project

Who are these proactive women?

They are women between 20 to 40 years old who have had little access to personal development and few possibilities of overcoming their economic situations because of isolated locations and the lack of opportunities.

1. Context: The economic situation in the municipality of Santiago Atitlán presents a series of challenges with a higher degree in rural areas. According to research done by the municipality and the lived experiences that ANADESA has familiarity with, the majorty of people who live in rural areas work in the fields, fish, or do beadwork. However, these sources of employment are not sufficient to cover basic needs or the current cost of living. The objective of ANADESA is to support the needs of these committed women to help their families get ahead. It´s been shown that here women have more difficulty finding a source of income and have less say in their families and communities. In 2006, the number of men exceeded women by 0.14%. Increased participation of women in the family economy contributes positive benefits to family activities. Through this, the project is not only to occupy women, but also to offer them training and opportunities within the different project activities.
